About this role

This entry-level engineering role supports the Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department, serving as the Design Authority for six nuclear sites. The position focuses on delivering design solutions for risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization at the Robinson Nuclear Plant.

Day-to-day work involves developing Civil/Structural engineering solutions for design packages supporting plant equipment upgrades. This includes scoping and developing modifications for pipe hanger design, structural analysis, pipe stress analysis, soil and steel/concrete structure evaluations, seismic equipment qualification, and weld design.

The Harris/Robinson Nuclear Plant Corporate Design Civil Engineering team manages the capital engineering change portfolio at these sites. You will collaborate with other CDE staff to ensure high-quality design solutions meet site needs and milestone requirements, working under close supervision while developing greater independence.

This is an entry-level position within the Engineering classification hierarchy, ideal for building foundational skills in nuclear civil/structural engineering. Incumbents are expected to develop expertise and the ability to work with increasing autonomy over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program (Master's degree in Engineering may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's).
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience for Engineer I level.
  • Mechanical B.S. Engineer with proper nuclear civil/structural experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in civil/structural engineering.
  • Ability to solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches associated with the resolution of technical problems.
  • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities and demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • Develops Civil/Structural engineering specific solutions in support of design packages for plant equipment upgrade projects.
  • Performs independent reviews of peer prepared engineering products.
