The Construction Manager / Site Superintendent is responsible for on-site supervision, coordination, and execution of construction activities. This role ensures all work is performed safely, in compliance with Canadian laws and standards, on schedule, and aligned with guaranteed energy performance design and performance outcomes. The position serves as the primary on-site supervisory authority during all active construction phases.
Key responsibilities include site supervision, procurement support, health and safety compliance, subcontractor management, and schedule and cost control. The superintendent directs subcontractors, conducts daily site inspections, and coordinates work sequencing to avoid conflicts and delays. They also plan outages and system tie-ins in coordination with facility operations, and maintain accurate daily logs and manpower reports.
This role requires full-time site presence and involves managing procurement support, including tender document review and contractor walkthroughs. The position plays a critical part in delivering tailored energy efficiency solutions and infrastructure upgrades that drive cost savings, resilience, and decarbonization. The superintendent also supports commissioning and measurement & verification activities.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction management or site supervision on energy efficiency or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and applicable building codes.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
- Demonstrated leadership skills for managing subcontractors and on-site personnel.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations (OSHA, local codes, and provincial standards).
- Experience with project scheduling, cost control, and progress tracking.
- Knowledge of commissioning processes and measurement & verification practices.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on‑site supervisory authority during all active construction phases.
- Direct, coordinate, and supervise subcontractors, trades, and site personnel.
- Conduct daily site inspections to verify progress, workmanship, safety, and housekeeping.
- Coordinate work sequencing and site logistics to avoid conflicts and delays.
- Plan and manage outages, shutdowns, and system tie‑ins in coordination with facility operations.
- Implement and enforce the Site Project Health & Safety Plan in accordance with provincial occupational health and safety regulations.
- Inspect and accept Ameresco procured materials on site, store securely, and perform inventory management.
