About this role

PMA Consultants has an immediate opening for an Assistant Project Manager to manage a portfolio of high-profile Aviation projects. This role independently manages small-to-medium construction projects or portions of larger programs, overseeing project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination to ensure successful delivery in alignment with scope, cost, and timeline objectives.

Day-to-day responsibilities include directing construction project planning and execution, developing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource allocations, and establishing governance processes and PM tools. The Assistant Project Manager conducts site supervision, provides QA/QC observations during construction and closeout, and coordinates architect and engineer responses to on-site concerns.

This position serves as a key liaison among clients, contractors, and internal teams, helping to resolve issues and facilitate communication. The role supports contract administration, risk mitigation, and QA/QC processes while leading project meetings and identifying risks to track project performance metrics and recommend process improvements.

This full-time position offers a hybrid work option combining on-site requirements at Newark Airport with some flexibility to work remotely. The Assistant Project Manager reports to the Senior Project Manager and has the opportunity to implement project management best practices across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, architecture or related field required
  • 3+ years of progressive project management experience in the AEC industry required
  • Aviation project experience preferred
  • Experience working with the New York Port Authority preferred
  • Experience in all levels of the project life cycle, including design review, procurement, proposal development, scheduling, cost controls, risk analysis, and change orders preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Experience presenting work products and facilitating work sessions preferred
  • Experience collaborating on project issues and working independently required

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day construction project planning and execution to meet project design, schedule, and financial objectives
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource allocations
  • Establish and maintain project governance processes and PM tools
  • Conduct site supervision and provide QA/QC observations during construction and closeout phases
  • Coordinate architect and engineer responses to on-site concerns
  • Monitor project milestones, changes, and technical progress; develop recovery plans as needed
  • Liaise with owners, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to resolve conflicts and align project goals
  • Identify risks, track project performance metrics, and recommend process improvements
