About this role
The TDIP Construction Manager reports to the assigned project's respective project manager and is responsible for managing and coordinating construction activities of the Construction Contractor, including Design/Builder and Construction Manager at Risk. This role acts as the liaison for pre-construction and construction activities, leading safety, security, and quality for the assigned programs.
Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring all on-site field construction activities, ensuring construction operations follow approved work plans and Area Shutdown Requests, and verifying that all work is performed and inspected to the latest versions of plans and specifications. The manager also monitors budget estimates, staffing requirements, and the assignment of manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency and meet schedule and budget goals.
The Terminal Development and Improvement Program (TDIP) is a major capital program focused on delivering distinct projects that modernize LAX's passenger terminals to improve customer experience, operational efficiency, safety, and connectivity across the airport. The Construction Manager works closely with stakeholders, the Construction Contractor, and design professionals to develop overall planning, identify critical milestones, and maintain excellent working relationships geared toward open communications and mutual problem solving.
This position offers the opportunity to lead construction within an operating, active airport environment, ensuring schedule certainty, budget delivery, and quality standards while enforcing a strong health, safety, and environmental culture. The role supports the development and implementation of design, construction, testing, commissioning, and turnover plans, with a focus on risk mitigation and adherence to LAWA standards.
Requirements
- Construction Manager with experience in an operating/active environment.
- Proven ability to manage construction within budget and schedule constraints while maintaining all necessary scope elements.
- Leader in stakeholder engagement to identify, communicate, resolve, and accomplish needs while preserving project scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
- Knowledge in construction contracting practices and methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience in the project construction life cycle from Pre-Construction to estimating/buyout to phasing to implementation to Closeout.
- Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with design and construction professionals, fostering open communications and mutual problem solving.
- Experience ensuring the use of sound and safe construction practices to attain required quality control at maximum efficiency and minimum cost.
Responsibilities
- Monitor all on-site field construction activities associated with the completion of the project.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of various disciplines used during construction, as well as methods and techniques for installation.
- Ensure construction operations follow approved work plans and Area Shutdown Requests (ASRs) and that all proper notifications are made.
- Become thoroughly familiar with required contractual obligations and technical aspects of all facilities to be erected.
- Ensure all work is performed and inspected to the latest versions of plans and specifications, including approved changes, submittals, and RFIs.
- Work with the Construction Contractor and stakeholders to develop overall planning of construction activities and identify critical milestones and priorities.
- Monitor budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule, and assign manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency.
- Keep alert to possible problem areas and take preventative action to ensure critical milestones are met for each phase of the project.
