About this role

This is an opportunity to work on high-impact engineering challenges and influence the future of infrastructure delivery as part of Severn Trent's innovative Plug & Play team. You will help develop standardised, repeatable structural solutions for major infrastructure projects, supporting one of the UK's largest capital investment programmes.

In this design-led role, you will lead and develop civil/structural designs with a strong focus on foundations, reinforced concrete and steel structures, and support structures for modular assets. You will deliver solutions from concept through to detailed design, undertaking structural calculations, checks, and design assurance using CAD, digital tools, and structural analysis software.

You will work within a team that promotes a Plug and Play approach, using standard modular components that can be easily combined into ready-made solutions. You will review and challenge designs from external consultants, ensuring compliance with Eurocodes, British Standards, and project specifications.

This role offers the chance to drive improvements in safety, quality, sustainability, and cost while shaping how assets are designed and delivered smarter, faster, and more efficiently. You will be part of developing the future design team and contributing to a programme that tackles challenges in waste and water infrastructure, flooding, and water quality.

Requirements

Strong experience in foundations, slabs, and structural systems
Experience with reinforced concrete and steel structures
Ability to lead and develop civil/structural designs from concept through to detailed design
Proficiency in structural calculations, checks, and design assurance
Experience using CAD, digital tools, and structural analysis and design software
Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, and project specifications
Ability to review and challenge designs from external consultants
Pragmatic, problem-solving approach to complex engineering challenges

Responsibilities

Lead and develop civil/structural designs with a focus on foundations (shallow and deep), reinforced concrete and steel structures, and support structures for modular assets
Deliver solutions from concept through to detailed design
Undertake structural calculations, checks, and design assurance
Use CAD and digital tools, structural analysis and design software, and office tools
Review and challenge designs from external consultants
Ensure compliance with Eurocodes, British Standards, and project specifications
Provide pragmatic, problem-solving input to complex engineering challenges
Contribute to developing standard structural solutions that can be built smarter, faster, and more efficiently across multiple sites
