About this role

APTIM is seeking a Structural Engineer to support a varying portfolio of projects for federal and commercial clients. These include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Federal Emergency Management Agency, local authorities, commercial retail companies, oil and gas providers, and coastal protection authorities. Structural engineers apply knowledge to diverse engineering challenges.

Engineering work encompasses building design, waterfront structures design, foundation design, existing structures evaluation and design for concrete, masonry, steel, and heavy timber. Tasks also involve design of temporary structures for construction, demolition planning, construction rigging and lifting plans, mechanical system structural support design, containment structures, and aboveground storage tank systems.

Professionals demonstrate a full understanding of structural engineering to resolve complex issues creatively. They contribute to a team environment while ensuring conformance to engineering codes, standards, company policies, and procedures. The role involves broad application of principles across related fields.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree; Master's in Structural Engineering a plus
  • 12+ years related experience
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mathcad, and technical software such as STAAD or ANSYS
  • Some CADD experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • PE or SE license required
  • NCEES Record a plus
  • Nuclear experience a plus
  • Finite element analysis experience a plus; willing to travel for infrequent field assignments

Responsibilities

  • Apply full understanding of structural engineering to resolve a wide range of issues creatively
  • Provide broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in structural engineering
  • Resolve a diverse scope and range of complex problems using good judgment in methods and techniques
  • Develop project design basis, calculations, specifications, and perform detailed engineering
  • Review structural design drawings and project-related submittals or shop drawings
  • Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes, standards, company policies, and procedures
  • Contribute to a team environment
