About this role

The Environmental Engineering Technician II supports the City’s environmental compliance programs through inspections, sampling, permitting, and monitoring of wastewater pretreatment and stormwater systems. The role centers on working directly with industrial users to maintain regulatory standards.

Daily work involves ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations while providing technical guidance on environmental matters. Activities also include supporting a variety of environmental protection initiatives across Public Works.

Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science degree in wastewater treatment, biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field
  • One (1) year of experience in stormwater treatment, wastewater treatment, wastewater collection systems, or pretreatment programs
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Obtain Flagger Certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain for duration of employment
  • Experience with federal and WA state environmental compliance

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections, sampling, permitting, and monitoring activities related to wastewater pretreatment and stormwater systems
  • Work with industrial users to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal environmental regulations
  • Provide technical guidance on wastewater and stormwater requirements
  • Support environmental protection initiatives across City programs
