About this role

Michael Baker International is seeking a highly motivated Senior Bridge Engineer for its growing bridge practice in Moon Township, PA. This position involves conventional and complex bridge designs, load ratings, inspections, and development of training material.

Acts as Project Manager or Structural Lead, managing scope, schedule, and budget for structural tasks on multidisciplinary projects. Daily work includes structural analysis, design, and load ratings using hand and finite element methods, plus interdisciplinary coordination.

The engineer coordinates with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, and construction disciplines to support integrated project delivery. This role also involves mentoring junior staff and developing bridge design training courses to foster knowledge sharing. The work environment encourages collaboration and technical growth within the bridge practice.

The successful candidate will have upward mobility to develop into a Technical or Project Manager. The position offers involvement in state-of-the-art bridge training material development and business development initiatives. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis from an ABET Accredited University.
  • 8+ years progressive experience in bridge design, analysis, rehabilitation, and design-build.
  • Pennsylvania P.E. or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Expert with finite element software and other bridge design software.
  • Experienced with post-tensioning design and detailing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Manager or Structural Lead on multidisciplinary bridge and transportation projects, with responsibility for overall project delivery from design through construction.
  • Perform and manage bridge and structural engineering tasks including structural analysis, design, and load ratings using hand calculations and finite element methods.
  • Lead, perform, and check bridge and structure designs to ensure compliance with applicable design codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, construction, and other disciplines to support integrated project delivery.
  • Develop, manage, and adhere to scope, schedule, and budget for structural tasks; support overall project staffing, resource planning, and financial performance.
  • Prepare scopes of work and man-hour estimates for proposals and support bridge and structure proposal development through strong technical writing.
  • Lead or support business development and marketing initiatives, including proposals, interviews, client engagement, and market growth efforts.
  • Mentor, develop, and support junior staff, including potential supervisory responsibilities; develop and deliver bridge design training courses.
