About this role

As an Associate Structural Engineer at McDermott, you will utilize existing structural engineering procedures to solve routine or standard problems under the guidance of senior team members. This role is based in Kuala Lumpur and supports global energy infrastructure projects, from subsea pipelines to offshore platforms.

Your day-to-day involves performing detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic engineering tasks while preparing clear and accurate design reports. You will organize your own work to meet deadlines set by others and communicate information clearly, asking questions and checking for understanding.

You will work closely with Lead Engineers, Design Supervisors, and designers within your discipline, receiving instruction and mentoring from experienced colleagues. The role requires learning the content and application of relevant standards, codes, and guidelines while performing computer analyses of structures designed by others.

This position offers a strong foundation for career growth in civil and structural engineering within the energy sector. You will gain exposure to project scope, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements while developing your technical skills in a supportive team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or master's degree in engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Preferably Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or member of professional engineering society
  • Eager to learn and develop technical design techniques and analysis methods
  • Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
  • Learn the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
  • HSE, TQM and cost-conscious mindset
  • Flexibility to reassign to other departments, construction sites, or fabrication yards as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic engineering tasks
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures
  • Organize own work to meet deadlines set by others
  • Clearly communicate information, asking questions and checking for understanding
  • Perform computer analyses of structures designed by others with guidance from Senior and PPL engineers
  • Prepare MTOs of primary structures under supervision
  • Assist in the preparation of subcontract documents
  • Review vendor data with guidance from colleagues
