About this role

Stony Brook University seeks a Project Manager to provide professional direction and oversight for all new construction and renovation activity on campus. This role is responsible for project planning, including identifying required labor and labor hours, calculating cost estimates based on trade rates, and working with trade unions on workforce designations.

Day-to-day, the Project Manager will manage multiple concurrent capital construction projects from scope through closeout, supervising vendors and trade personnel across all facets of project progression. The incumbent will maintain all capital project documentation for adjustments to time, labor, extensions, and scope change orders, while also generating estimates and tracking project schedules using construction management software.

This role operates within the University's facilities team, representing the institution in development, planning, and construction activities performed in-house with state trade employees, contract labor, and consultants. The Project Manager must work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and complex projects, ensuring both capital and locally funded projects progress efficiently and on schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher); in lieu of degree, four years of full-time directly related experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four years may be considered.
  • Five years of full-time, progressively responsible, directly related experience in construction management, budgeting, project development, and/or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience in minor rehabilitation and new construction, including project cost and schedule oversight.
  • Knowledge of Building and Fire Codes.
  • Experience working with construction management software (Procore, E-Builder, Primavera, etc.).
  • Project Management experience.
  • Must have, keep, and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License with a motor vehicle record free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple concurrent capital construction projects from scope through closeout.
  • Supervise vendors and trade personnel, including oversight of all trades in all facets of project progression, state trade employees, contract labor, and outside vendors for major rehabilitations, renovations, alterations, and new construction projects.
  • Maintain all capital project documentation for adjustments to time, labor, extensions, and project scope change orders.
  • Maintain records of construction documents, as-built drawings, project schedules using project management software, and budget estimates.
  • Provide accurate reports that forecast through project completion via the Project Status Report and other means identified by leadership.
  • Generate estimates and track project costs to ensure adherence to budget.
  • Represent the University in development, planning, and construction activities performed in-house, utilizing state trade employees, contract labor, and consultants.
