About this role

Applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform civil structural analyses and design of Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. Candidates should possess a strong design background and be proficient in structural concrete and steel analysis and design. Candidate shall be capable of leading technical activities and provide effective technical mentorship to less experienced engineers.

Serves as subject matter expert in civil structural design areas, resolving technical issues and coordinating with interdisciplinary stakeholders. Works on highly complex tasks in multiple areas, proposing innovative design solutions requiring independent judgment. Uses structural engineering tools and implements standards to design structures for concrete, steel, and other materials.

Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts. Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants for effective coordination and resolution of technical problems. Functions on multi-disciplinary teams with general knowledge of related fields principles and practices.

Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of team technical activities. Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies. Possesses strong written and oral communication skills for interactions with contractors and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • Strong design background in civil structural engineering
  • Proficiency in structural concrete and steel analysis and design
  • Capable of leading technical activities and providing effective technical mentorship
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner using independent judgment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for interacting with contractors and regulatory bodies
  • General knowledge of principles and practices of related fields for multi-disciplinary teams
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, and tracking project timelines and deadlines
  • Adaptable to changes in work environment and competing demands

Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert in civil structural design areas, resolving technical issues and coordinating with interdisciplinary stakeholders
  • Work on highly complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas, proposing innovative design solutions requiring independent judgment
  • Develop technical expertise to bring advanced capabilities in house as beneficial for NuScale
  • Use structural engineering tools and implement standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing results
  • Interface with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts
  • Interact with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants to coordinate design activities and resolve technical problems
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of team technical activities
  • Develop and review requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies
