About this role

The role of a Bridge Engineer is to work as an integrated team member on a variety of bridge and structural projects. The successful candidate will serve in a technical role as part of an overall design team for highway, pedestrian, and rail projects.

Work includes performing simple and complex design and structural analysis assignments both independently and under the guidance of a Senior Bridge Engineer. Duties involve assembling detailed design packages, plan set preparation, and writing construction specification packages for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation infrastructure.

The position requires application of structural engineering principles for assessment, evaluation, load rating, design, rehabilitation, and strengthening of bridges and transportation structures.

Managing bridge and structural tasks for multi-discipline projects includes developing rehabilitation or replacement strategies and completing structural analysis using company standard software. The role also involves preparing construction contract documents, conducting quality reviews, and performing calculations with tools such as AASHTOWare, CSiBridge, and SAP2000.

Requirements

  • Understanding of most relevant structural design, load rating, and analysis concepts and methods
  • Proven experience with structural design and load rating software such as AASHTOWare, BRASS, CSiBridge, OpenBridge, SAP2000, LPile, and MDX
  • Solid understanding of and practical experience applying the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation
  • Ability to use MicroStation and/or AutoCad preferred; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Mathcad
  • Ability to assess and validate software calculation results and participate in a project team setting
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • PE license required or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months
  • Minimum of 4 years of bridge and/or structural design experience

Responsibilities

  • Apply structural engineering principles to provide solutions for assessment, evaluation, load rating, design, rehabilitation, and strengthening of bridges and transportation structures
  • Manage bridge and structural tasks for multi-discipline projects, developing rehabilitation or replacement strategies and completing structural analysis and design
  • Assist team in preparing construction contract documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and reports
  • Conduct interpretations and quality reviews of drawings, codes, and other similar materials
  • Perform calculations and structural analysis/modeling using company standard software such as AASHTOWare, BRASS, CSiBridge, and SAP2000
  • Assist with engineering duties on projects of various levels of complexity
