About this role
Manages the Sacramento office estimating department and is accountable for estimating functions throughout the preconstruction phase. This role oversees resource allocation for project estimation and ensures accurate bidding processes while collaborating with senior management to review construction documents and identify design-related risks.
Develops and maintains relationships with clients, architects, and trade partners to enhance business development opportunities. Oversees the development of lump sum bids, value engineering efforts, and budget control reports to manage cost events and communicate scope development effectively.
Reports to the General Manager or Regional Preconstruction Manager and collaborates with Business Development, Procurement, Operations, and Lean Manager. Participates in hiring, performance feedback, and training for direct reports within a collaborative team environment, fostering relationships with the design community to support future opportunities.
Leads Target Value Design processes and supports launch matrix preparation for successful project delivery. This senior-level position offers the chance to shape preconstruction strategies and contribute to diverse building projects including healthcare, life sciences, and higher education.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of Building Construction related experience required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience with a variety of building construction types desired, such as Healthcare, life sciences, higher education, and aviation.
- Proven ability to manage estimating teams and allocate resources for complex project estimation.
- Strong knowledge of construction documents, specifications, and contract requirements for milestone estimates.
- Experience with value engineering, constructability reviews, and budget control processes.
Responsibilities
- Manage the office estimating department and allocate appropriate resources for project estimation during the preconstruction phase.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, architects, design community, and trade partners to enhance business development opportunities.
- Oversee the management of developing lump sum bids and review for senior management approval.
- Conduct market research information for upcoming work and maintain local and national historical estimating data.
- Manage and oversee the Value Engineering process during preconstruction.
- Collaborate with Procurement to develop and evaluate procurement schedules, resources, and analyze subcontractor proposals.
- Prepare comparison analysis to previous estimates and develop clear variance explanations for project stakeholders.
- Generate, coordinate, and manage Budget Control Reports between milestone estimates to manage cost events and value engineering opportunities.
Benefits
- Salary range of $140,000 - $190,000 annualized, based on experience and qualifications.
