Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, seeks a Geotechnical Engineering Intern for its Geotechnical Building & Construction team in Dallas, TX. This summer role joins Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) and offers growth in the architectural, engineering, and construction industry.

The intern performs a variety of testing, project specific observations, and site assessment duties under direct supervision or from detailed controlled procedures. Tasks include operating testing equipment, conducting procedures to provide data through reporting, and working with drawings, specifications, and diagrams.

Intertek's Building & Construction division leads across architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines with innovative solutions. It provides assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting to ensure reliability, safety, and performance of developments and facilities. PSI offers geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, environmental consulting, and specialty testing.

Successful candidates pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or related field for this summer internship or semester co-op. No experience required as Intertek provides training. Compensation considers skillset, experience, and qualifications with added benefits.

Requirements

  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or closely related field
  • No experience required - will train
  • Basic math, calculator and computer skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to read and understand work plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Awareness of and adherence to safety practices and policies

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under direct supervision
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct various testing procedures to provide data through reporting
  • Work utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams
  • Use specific methods to observe site activities, follow testing procedures, and perform tasks
  • Make detailed observations and give limited interpretation of results
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results
  • Operate a calculator to formulate mathematical test results
  • Communicate effectively with client and project teams
