About this role

AECOM is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Tailings and Mine Waste team in Canada. In this role, you will lead tailings dam design and serve as an Engineer of Record for tailings management projects across Canada and beyond. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading the technical delivery of conceptual through detailed designs of mine waste and water management facilities. You will provide technical direction and mentorship to team members, perform independent technical reviews, and offer expert advice on regulatory compliance. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in the tailings and mine waste sector.
  • Previous experience serving as Engineer of Record for large tailings facilities.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (preferred).
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to build strong working relationships across AECOM and with global project teams (preferred).
  • Proven experience leading and building multidisciplinary teams (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of conceptual through detailed designs of mine waste management facilities, including tailings dams, filtered stacks, co-disposal facilities, and waste dumps.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) on tailings dams or similar embankment systems.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to technical team members.
  • Perform independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designs.
  • Provide expert advice to clients on engineering matters, including compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Actively participate in AECOM’s Technical Practice Group.
  • Partner with clients to develop long-term, sustainable solutions.
