About this role
The Glencore Coal Assets Australia Vacation Employment Program recruits enthusiastic tertiary students for an amazing opportunity in geotechnical engineering. Build relationships and learn from industry experts while demonstrating resourcefulness and innovation. Accept the challenge of living and working in regional locations across New South Wales and Queensland mine sites.
Secure 12 weeks of paid on-the-job work experience during your university vacation period. Implement theoretical knowledge in a practical environment on coal assets. Vacation employment opportunities exist in geotechnical disciplines with commitment required for the full program duration.
Positions based regionally in mid-Hunter Valley or Mudgee in NSW, and Emerald or Mackay regions in QLD. Roles are residential, requiring relocation to the local area. Accommodation provided as part of the package if required to relocate.
Program commences onsite Monday 30th November 2026 and finishes Friday 19th February 2027. Priority given to second and third year undergraduates who have completed at least one full year of study by end 2026. Experience the industry, live in a regional community, and develop valuable skills.
Requirements
- Studying a Bachelor of Geotechnical Engineering or similar
- Civil Engineering qualifications also considered
- Currently enrolled in full-time university studies
- Priority for second and third year undergraduates
- Completed at least one full year of study by end 2026
- Enthusiastic, resourceful, and innovative mindset
- Excited to live and work in regional mine site locations
- Able to commit to full 12-week residential program
Responsibilities
- Implement theoretical geotechnical knowledge in practical mining environments
- Assist with geotechnical assessments on regional coal mine sites
- Contribute to ground control and stability analysis for mine infrastructure
- Perform fieldwork including soil and rock sampling at operational sites
- Support slope monitoring and foundation design for coal assets
- Collaborate on geotechnical projects across NSW and QLD locations
- Apply engineering principles to real-world vacation program tasks
