About this role

The Ground Engineering Business Unit Director is a senior role reporting directly to the Executive Director for Infrastructure. Part of the Senior Leadership Team, it influences business strategy formulation and achievement. The role drives the unit to become a market leader in the UK and Ireland.

Provide senior leadership and strategic direction, achieving safety, sustainability, and financial goals. Manage people, projects, supply chain, and clients in line with divisional strategy. Grow predictable profitability and order book, focusing on key clients.

Base at offices in Godstone, Surrey; Nailsea, North Somerset; Kilsyth, Glasgow; or Warrington. Create a culture with disciplined cost and risk management. Implement corrective measures for overruns and minimise risks, claims, and disputes.

Role model BAM values as an inclusive leader developing a client-focused business. Innovate with new construction methods for sustainable value. Further reputation for design and build quality while motivating teams.

Requirements

Proven leadership in ground engineering business units within civil infrastructure
Strategic planning experience for UK and Ireland ground engineering markets
P&L accountability in managing infrastructure projects and supply chains
Expertise in cost, risk, and commercial dispute management in construction
Track record growing client accounts through relationship-based sales
Knowledge of sustainability integration in ground engineering projects
Experience leading transformation in design-build ground engineering
Familiarity with ground engineering innovations and lifecycle capabilities

Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategy and budget, optimising revenue and growing margin in line with UK & Ireland Division ambitions
Represent the business internally and externally, promoting BAM as a long-term strategic partner
See future possibilities and translate them into breakthrough strategies driving business improvement
Develop genuine long-term relationships with key clients to prioritise growth in share of wallet and margin
Manage and be accountable for business unit profit and loss, developing pipeline, preparing tenders, and winning contracts
Ensure effective management of all projects including commercial, financial, and operational aspects
Drive profitability over revenue and maximise profit potential on every project
