About this role

This role is responsible for all structural and geotechnical design and design review activities for large-scale infrastructure and marine projects, including checking contractor submissions and endorsing designs as part of internal quality control. The Senior Design Engineer coordinates closely with design, construction management, and project control teams to facilitate construction progress.

Day-to-day work involves managing a team of Design Engineers, providing guidance on design management and project delivery, and preparing or approving letters related to design and geotechnical instrumentation issues. The engineer also liaises with clients, contractors, and government authorities independently to ensure client requirements are clearly identified and addressed.

The position operates within a collaborative team environment at Surbana Jurong Group in Mandaluyong, working alongside construction management and contractual administration teams. The engineer provides professional structural and geotechnical engineering services for commercial, public, industrial, and marine facilities such as revetments, shoreline protection, ports, and harbours.

This role offers the opportunity to lead design efforts on complex coastal and infrastructure projects, including soil improvement, geotechnical stability, and coastal protection works. The engineer will also support tender submissions and pursue new project opportunities, contributing to the growth of the team and the company's portfolio.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised and reputable university.
Minimum 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience in large-scale infrastructure/reclamation projects.
Skill, knowledge, and ability to manage and coordinate all design activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Team player and able to multi-task.
Disciplined, self-motivated, and resourceful.
Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Plaxis.
Well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Responsibilities

Be responsible for all Structural/Geotechnical design and design review activities, including checking contractor design submissions with endorsement as internal quality control process.
Coordinate with teammates in design, construction management, and project control teams on design activities to facilitate construction works progress.
Manage a team of Design Engineers and provide necessary guidance for design management and project delivery.
Prepare and approve letters related to design and geotechnical instrumentation issues, coordinating with construction management and contractual administration teams.
Provide professional structural/geotechnical engineering services for marine facilities including revetment, shoreline protection, ports, and harbours structures, covering soil investigation, field tests, laboratory works, and design.
Analyze, approve, and design soil improvement, geotechnical stability, and coastal protection works.
Analyze, approve, and design all structural/geotechnical elements from foundations to above ground works across concrete (reinforced and pre/post-tensioned) and steel.
Review and approve design specifications for tender documents and carry out design review of C&S and geotechnical design for infra and coastal structures such as quay wall, port, jetty, revetment, and land reclamation.
