About this role

AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team in Ontario. This hybrid full-time position offers the chance to work on major transportation, water resources, marine, and civil infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in foundation design, retaining structures, and ground improvement methods.

Day-to-day responsibilities include carrying out geotechnical analysis and design for shallow and deep foundations, embankments, tunnels, and excavation support systems. The role involves managing geotechnical investigations, preparing proposals, and writing comprehensive geotechnical reports for a variety of projects. Travel within Canada may be required for project sites.

This role operates in a multi-discipline project team environment, collaborating with engineers, designers, and drafters from conceptual design through final design. The candidate will act as a technical resource and maintain positive working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and other external agencies. Maintaining quality throughout each project and implementing improvements when determined are also key aspects.

The successful candidate will have a key role in the development and growth of AECOM's geotechnical practice in Canada. Requirements

  • University graduate with a degree in civil or geotechnical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation required.
  • Extensive experience in the design and construction of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankments, railways, highways, and airports.
  • Experience with excavation support systems, tunnels, trenchless, and ground improvement methods (stone columns, soil mixing, etc.).
  • Strong technical design and reporting skills.
  • Organizational skills to manage projects and act as a technical resource.
  • Experience working in a multi-discipline project team environment.
  • Field and project management experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with diverse teams of engineers, designers, and drafters from conceptual design through final design.
  • Manage geotechnical investigations and reporting, ensuring completion on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis, design, and reporting for transportation, municipal, building, environmental, and energy projects.
  • Prepare proposals for geotechnical projects of varying complexity.
  • Write geotechnical reports and proposals.
  • Maintain quality control throughout projects and implement improvements as needed.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and external agencies.
  • Travel within Canada for project sites as required.
