About this role
WSP USA hosts hundreds of internships across the United States for hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance education and professional aptitude. The Geotechnical and Tunneling Team seeks a Full-Time Geotechnical Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 out of the New York, NY office. This temporary position targets individuals enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.
Interns work side by side with senior staff on real projects as part of the 12-week WSP Summer Internship Program starting May 18, 2026, with flexible individual start dates. Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills. Assist with project research, field work, preliminary design calculations, and analysis.
Help prepare final design plans, special provisions, cost estimates, and maintain project documentation. Complete training on assigned tasks and exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct, health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Gain exposure through the Developing Professionals Network for mentorship, networking opportunities, and lifelong career connections. Please note there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship. Build foundational skills in Geotechnical Engineering principles.
Requirements
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
- Must be 18 or older
- Demonstrated interest in Geotechnical Engineering or related field with strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others and expressing ideas effectively
- Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
Responsibilities
- Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
- Learn basic principles of Geotechnical Engineering
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis
- Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates
- Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation
- Complete training on assigned tasks
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct
