About this role

This position is instrumental in ensuring the overall and long-term safety of the mine through implementation, coordination and control of geotechnical services for safe recovery of the mineable reserve. The ideal candidate uses data and sound technical principles to support and drive recommendations while working with stakeholders. It suits those with a keen eye for continuous improvement, analytical mindset, and commitment to zero harm.

Daily tasks include interpreting Groundprobe Slope Stability Radar data for wall stability feedback, completing inspections and field repairs of geotechnical monitoring equipment, and installing equipment for investigations. Regularly inspect open pit operations to ensure design parameters and recommend actions for high wall safety. Interpret geotechnical and hydrogeological monitoring of rock mass responses to mining activities.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the role resides within the Technical Services department on a site-based 14 days in/14 days out rotation. Build quick relationships with the mine operations team to achieve the best path forward. Requirements

  • Analytical skills to interpret geotechnical data and rock mass responses in open pit mining
  • Ability to maintain geotechnical and hydrogeological models and databases
  • Experience liaising with consultants on complex geotechnical projects
  • Proficiency in establishing causes of geotechnical failures and providing recommendations
  • Knowledge of conducting audits for compliance with geotechnical standards and specifications
  • Familiarity with Groundprobe Slope Stability Radar and related monitoring tools
  • Commitment to safe work practices and zero harm in mining environments

Responsibilities

  • Promote, support and implement sound safety, health, and environmental management practices in line with legislation and mine policies
  • Provide mine geotechnical services and oversight to ensure stable conditions complying with permits and standards
  • Interpret Groundprobe Slope Stability Radar data and provide feedback on wall stability to stakeholders
  • Complete daily inspections and field repairs of geotechnical monitoring equipment
  • Install monitoring equipment to support geotechnical investigations
  • Interpret geotechnical and hydrogeological monitoring of rock mass responses to mining activities
  • Regularly inspect open pit operations to ensure design parameters and recommend actions for high wall safety
  • Provide geotechnical input on mine design revisions, drill and blast plans, and short to mid-term mine planning
