Intertek's Building and Construction division leads in assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting for reliable developments and facilities.

Professional Service Industries (Intertek-PSI) provides construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and specialty testing. The intern performs laboratory testing, site assessments, and engineering duties under general supervision. Tasks include operating equipment, soil testing, and field visits to stake boring locations.

Work utilizes drawings, specifications, diagrams, and maintains detailed documentation from test results. Communicate effectively with project teams and assist in classifying soil samples. Provide back-up support for administrative staff and perform data entry in company systems.

As an intern, receive hands-on training and mentorship to gain valuable insights in geotechnical engineering. Network with industry experts, shadow roles across departments, and connect with fellow interns and professionals. Enjoy flexible work schedules and a collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management degree program at an accredited university
  • Recent graduates may also be considered
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively
  • Mental and physical requirements to carry out duties
  • Familiarity with soil classification and geotechnical testing procedures
  • Capability to perform field staking and laboratory tasks

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of laboratory testing and site assessment duties under direct supervision
  • Operate laboratory testing equipment and conduct soil testing
  • Work utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams
  • Visit project sites to stake soil boring locations in the field
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results
  • Communicate effectively with project teams
  • Assist in classifying soil samples and various geotechnical laboratory testing
  • Perform data entry maintenance in company systems
