About this role

The Structural Engineer II is responsible for performing basic structural engineering tasks for electrical construction projects under the direct supervision of the Engineering Manager or Director. This role ensures the safety and durability of the projects they are working on by applying principles of mechanics, mathematics, physics, and material science.

Day-to-day work involves performing detailed calculations to compute construction standards and specifications, preparing and studying technical drawings, and conducting field surveys to identify structural issues. The role also includes inspecting completed installations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications.

This position works closely with other structural engineers, Preconstruction teams, project teams, and manufacturing production teams. The ideal candidate must have the ability to apply 3D concepts to creative problem-solving and operate computer-assisted engineering and design software.

Requirements

  • 4 or more years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis.
  • Ability to apply principles of mechanics, mathematics, physics, and material science to structural engineering problems.
  • Proficiency with computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Knowledge of construction standards, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with 3D conceptual thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance to Level 1 Engineers and Designers.
  • Performs detailed calculations to compute and establish construction standards and specifications.
  • Prepares and studies technical drawings/specifications to ensure designs/installations conform to standards and customer requirements.
  • Conducts field surveys and studies diagrams to identify and correct structural problems.
  • Confers with internal and external customers to discuss existing or potential construction projects.
  • Inspects completed installations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications.
  • Assists in quality assurance and quality control of fabrication.
  • Operates computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks.
