About this role

Hoyle Tanner has a new position open for an initiative-taking Senior Hydraulic Engineer with experience in open channel flow (rivers/streams). You will lead and support hydraulic analysis and scour evaluation for bridge and culvert projects. This role offers career pathways into business development or project management.

Lead hydraulic studies for bridge and culvert projects including river, stream, and floodplain crossings. Perform detailed scour analyses for structures and recommend scour protection measures. Utilize HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SRH-2D, and GIS tools for analysis and design.

Prepare technical reports, calculations, maps, and documentation for regulatory submittals. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams of structural engineers, environmental scientists, and construction staff. Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related field
  • PE Licensure
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in open channel flow (rivers/streams)
  • Exceptional oral/written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct hydraulic studies for bridge and culvert projects, including river, stream, and floodplain crossings
  • Perform detailed scour analyses for new and existing bridge structures and recommend appropriate scour protection measures
  • Utilize hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SRH-2D) and GIS-based project mapping tools for project analysis and design
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, maps, and documentation for regulatory submittals and project records
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, including structural engineers, environmental scientists, and construction staff
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and review their work for accuracy and compliance
