Example project is HS2 Phase 2b Lot2 for High Speed 2 Limited. Provided design services as part of the ACI joint venture to support Hybrid Bill stage design for the route between Birmingham and Sheffield. The tunnelling team contributed to route development and outline design.
Considered bored, mined and cut and cover tunnelling options. Scope included review of alignment and construction options and sifting multiple options against engineering, environmental and engagement criteria. Outline designs produced, allowing suitable construction cost estimates and environmental statements.

Requirements
- Civil engineering degree suitable for graduate intake
- Understanding of tunnelling in varying geological conditions
- Knowledge of bored, mined and cut and cover tunnelling options
- Familiarity with infrastructure projects like high speed rail and power tunnels
- Ability to review alignments and sift options against engineering criteria
- Interest in sustainable underground structures for congested cities
Responsibilities
- Contribute to design of tunnels and underground structures in challenging geological conditions

- Review alignment and construction options for tunnelling projects

- Produce outline designs for construction cost estimates and environmental statements
- Assist in route development considering bored, mined and cut and cover methods
- Provide design services for projects like HS2 Phase 2b and Thames Tideway
