In this position, you will independently manage projects from schematic design through the construction phase with minimal guidance. Your day-to-day work involves preparing engineering calculations, overseeing construction documents, and coordinating structural design with architects, other engineering disciplines, building officials, and contractors.
You will perform construction administration functions including the review of shop drawings and interpretation of construction documents. Our attention to detail and quality of service to clients sets us apart from other firms, and you will contribute to that standard by conducting plan examinations for compliance with the Florida Building Code.

Requirements
- Licensed Structural Engineer (Florida P.E. license is highly desired)
- Technical ability to independently work through a project from schematic design through the construction phase with minimal guidance
- Ability to prepare engineering calculations and oversee construction documents
- Experience coordinating structural design with architects, other engineering disciplines, building officials, and contractors
- Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and ability to explain it to customers, engineers, architects, and field inspectors
- Ability to evaluate proposed alternate methods and materials against code requirements
- Experience performing construction administration functions including review of shop drawings and interpretation of construction documents
Responsibilities
- Conduct plan examining in all building permit categories of new and existing installations for compliance with the Florida Building Code
- Examine building projects for defects, omissions, violations, and other departures from correct procedure
- Provide recommendations and suggestions to contractors or owners regarding changes necessary to bring establishment up to code requirements
- Evaluate proposed alternate methods and materials against code requirements
- Evaluate requests for product approvals and ascertain by field visits that manufactured products meet specifications of the original product approval
- Order necessary shop drawings, field tests, soil reports, and special supervision of construction as required to complete plans processing work
- Answer technical questions concerning structural design and code requirements for customers, engineers, architects, and field inspectors
- Perform construction administration functions including review of shop drawings and interpretation of construction documents
