About this role

WSP is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer for the North Carolina Transportation Team. The position supports civil and roadway design work on traditional and alternative delivery projects. Candidates may be based in the Greensboro office or in Charlotte, Raleigh, or Mooresville.

Daily tasks include conceptual and preliminary engineering, final design, and construction plan development. The engineer prepares calculations, specifications, and PS&E packages while applying current civil engineering techniques across project phases.

The North Carolina Roadway Design Team delivers projects for State DOTs and municipal agencies. Work covers interstate reconstruction, arterial improvements, intersection safety, pedestrian infrastructure, and transit initiatives across the region.

This role offers advancement within the WSP organization at regional and national levels. Engineers collaborate with planners, other disciplines, and infrastructure authorities on federally and locally funded projects while staying current with industry practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of relevant post-education experience in civil and roadway design.
  • Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain Professional Engineering License in NC.
  • Experience on DOT and municipal projects including highway and roadway geometric design, calculations, and plan production.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation.

Responsibilities

  • Work on conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities including construction plans, calculations, and specifications.
  • Prepare Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) as part of multi-discipline project teams.
  • Review and develop design layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, and reports for roadway projects.
  • Coordinate with owners, sub-consultants, and clients on concurrent projects under task lead direction.
  • Apply civil engineering techniques across concept development, preliminary design, final design, and construction phases.
  • Collaborate with professionals on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects and business development efforts.
