Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Marine Structural Engineer to assist in growing our Waterfront Improvement practice. The position is based in Seattle, WA; Sacramento, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Los Angeles, CA; San Diego, CA offices or other U.S. offices. Hybrid schedule or remote from home office may be available at company discretion.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years developing complex and innovative coastal engineering solutions and will assimilate into Coastal Engineering and Waterfront Development teams nationwide. Provide engineering and client support on complex projects involving marine infrastructure. Support project teams with technical input during planning, design, construction, and maintenance phases. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop sustainable solutions for bulkheads, wharfs, harbors, docks, and shoreline protection. Lead structural analysis, modeling, and design ensuring stability, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Mentor junior engineers and engage clients with design concepts and project updates. Assist in technical proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for business development. Geosyntec invests in people with competitive pay, benefits, and well-being programs for unique career paths.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years (15+ years preferred) of direct engineering experience in marine structural engineering, with emphasis in projects such as bulkheads, docks, harbors, and shoreline protection systems
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, such as SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or LARSA
  • Strong understanding of materials used in marine environments, including steel, concrete
  • Professional Engineer license
  • Structural Engineering (SE) license (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise for structural design and engineering of marine infrastructure projects such as bulkheads, wharfs, bridge pilings, harbors, docks, breakwaters, and shoreline protection systems
  • Conduct structural analysis, modeling, and design of marine and waterfront structures to ensure stability, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Support project teams with technical input during all project phases, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and sustainable solutions tailored to client needs
  • Assist in preparing technical proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules to support business development efforts
  • Lead and review structural calculations, technical drawings, and specifications to maintain quality standards
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering technical growth and professional development
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to present design concepts, technical reports, and project updates
