About this role

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks a Development Technician 3 for a full-time, state-funded position. This role supports instructional and research needs by maintaining laboratory operations, equipment, and facilities. It reports to the Department Chair and provides lay off rights.

Daily tasks include preparing labs, setting up equipment and materials, and performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Coordinate purchases, repairs, and hands-on support for faculty and students, including training on equipment use. Design and fabricate specialized equipment, assemblies, and experimental setups.

Work in a vibrant academic department with an accredited engineering program. Ensure a safe laboratory environment through safety trainings, procedure enforcement, and documentation. Manage inventories, assets, and coordinate with campus facilities and outside vendors.

Support space needs, lab remodels, office moves, department operations, student club activities, events, and lab tours. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude in civil engineering testing equipment for soil, concrete, steel, and composites. Position fills as soon as a suitable candidate is selected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in civil engineering testing equipment for soil, concrete, steel and composite materials
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting and problem solving ability
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn and operate new equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to work and make decisions independently
