About this role

Join the Underground Engineering & Construction team as an intern. Assist support staff, technical specialists, project engineers, project managers, managers, and directors. Provide analysis, planning, design, and construction services for potable water distribution projects, wastewater collection projects, and new service requests.

This role is part of the Capital Programs & Engineering Department, which includes Energy Distribution Engineering, Plant Engineering, and Program Technical Services. Report directly to Managers in the Underground Engineering & Construction group. Focus on internal clients' needs while understanding external clients' interests and drivers.

Develop familiarity with department needs by reading, understanding, and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and policies. Comply with the Citizens Quality Program and support continuous improvement efforts. Contribute to preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies.

Perform routine research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection. Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work. Prepare basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.

Requirements

  • Active attendance at a college or university with emphasis in civil, mechanical, or general engineering, science, environmental studies, construction management, or related field
  • Current Grade Point Average of 2.75 or higher
  • Ability to work both remotely and access Citizens' local office and site facilities
  • Valid State of Indiana, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Operator's License
  • Experience in Microsoft Windows 10 and Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with project managers, staff engineers, and other team members
  • Completed at least Freshman year level of studies

Responsibilities

  • Develop familiarity with department needs by reading, understanding, and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Citizens policies and procedures
  • Develop understanding of and comply with the Citizens Quality Program while supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts
  • Contribute to preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope
  • Perform routine research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work
  • Prepare basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
  • Focus on the needs of internal clients while gaining basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers
