About this role
A Geotechnical Field Engineer observes construction activities, tests material properties, and provides engineering consulting on projects of increasing complexity. You play a key role assisting clients to successfully execute their projects under the direct supervision of registered Professional Engineers.
You execute in-depth evaluations, troubleshoot complex issues, and make recommendations with Project Manager support. Work includes evaluating soils for bearing capacity, subgrade modulus, seismic site classification, and slope stability analysis.
You coordinate closely with clients, subcontractors, and SME team members while preparing geotechnical proposals and reports. Collaboration on scopes of work occurs with senior level engineers to deliver practical solutions.
Autonomy is given to identify and resolve complex challenges in the field. This role supports professional growth through hands-on involvement in deep foundation design, pressuremeter analysis, and related geotechnical topics.
Requirements
- Competency using computer operating systems and MS Office Suite programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly to clients and team members.
- Strong organizational skills with accurate record-keeping for field observations, safety concerns, and problem resolutions.
- Basic construction competencies including interpretation of surveys, road maps, aerial photos, and geologic maps.
- Ability to handle physical demands such as lifting up to 50lbs repetitively, walking on uneven ground, and working in various weather conditions.
- Demonstrates ethical conduct, maintains confidentiality, and adheres to strict safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate soils for bearing capacity, subgrade modulus, seismic site classification, lateral earth pressures, and slope stability.
- Analyze laboratory test data, perform pressuremeter analysis, and complete deep foundation design.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and SME team members on project execution.
- Prepare geotechnical proposals and reports documenting field observations and recommendations.
- Collaborate on scopes of work and recommendations with senior level engineers.
- Identify and resolve complex technical challenges using critical thinking in field conditions.
