About this role
Tetra Tech's Environmental Compliance and Ground Engineering team is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join in London or Abingdon. This role offers the chance to shape the future of ground engineering by delivering geotechnical design and interpretative reporting across a varied UK project portfolio.
You will work closely with colleagues and clients, providing interpretative advice, design support, and technical guidance across all stages of delivery. Your responsibilities span due diligence, planning applications, site investigation specifications, laboratory testing scheduling, and construction-stage monitoring and validation, while also managing your own projects.
You will join a collaborative, multi-disciplinary consultancy environment where no two projects are the same. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will help shape safe, effective, and buildable engineering solutions while supporting junior staff and graduates. The team values practical, robust, and commercially sound geotechnical solutions that support clients across a diverse range of projects.

Requirements
- Strong practical understanding of UK geology and geotechnical/soil mechanics principles.
- Experience in site investigation techniques, soil and rock logging, factual and interpretive reporting, and laboratory scheduling.
- UK experience producing geotechnical interpretive and design reports, including Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Ground Investigation Reports, and Geotechnical Design Reports.
- Ability to support junior staff and graduates through review, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Experience contributing to project management in a consultancy environment, working to programme, budget, and quality expectations.
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines to develop practical geotechnical solutions balancing technical, commercial, and buildability considerations.
- Confident and collaborative approach with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality geotechnical design and interpretative reporting across a varied portfolio of UK projects.
- Provide interpretative advice, design support, and technical guidance across all stages of project delivery.
- Support due diligence, planning applications, site investigation specifications, laboratory testing scheduling, and construction-stage monitoring.
- Manage and deliver your own projects within a relatively short period, including project management responsibilities.
- Help shape safe, effective, and buildable engineering solutions that balance technical, commercial, and buildability considerations.
- Contribute to project delivery, coordination, and technical quality.
- Support the development of junior staff and graduates through review, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Drive business growth through trusted technical expertise and client relationships.
