Requirements
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Expertise in forensic structural engineering and failure analysis
- Knowledge of structural failures including roof damage, water intrusion, post-fire damage, and foundation settlement
- Experience conducting loss scene surveys at residential and commercial buildings
- Proficiency in investigating origin and cause of building system failures and collapses
- Ability to analyze and document causation for litigation support
- Skills in preparing detailed forensic engineering reports
- Comfort serving as an expert witness in court or depositions
Responsibilities
- Determine the origin and cause of structural failures including roof damage, water intrusion, post-fire damage, storm damage, structural integrity evaluations, collapses, foundation settlement, product liability, and construction defects
- Survey losses and loss scenes at residential and commercial buildings
- Conduct investigations to determine and document the scope of damage caused by recent acute events
- Investigate and assess damages due to failures and determine the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support
- Analyze and document the failure analysis and causation of failures
- Collaborate with other investigators to produce detailed reports outlining the cause and origin of losses and damages
- Serve as an expert witness in court and/or in depositions
- Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects
