Requirements

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
Expertise in forensic structural engineering and failure analysis
Knowledge of structural failures including roof damage, water intrusion, post-fire damage, and foundation settlement
Experience conducting loss scene surveys at residential and commercial buildings
Proficiency in investigating origin and cause of building system failures and collapses
Ability to analyze and document causation for litigation support
Skills in preparing detailed forensic engineering reports
Comfort serving as an expert witness in court or depositions

Responsibilities

Determine the origin and cause of structural failures including roof damage, water intrusion, post-fire damage, storm damage, structural integrity evaluations, collapses, foundation settlement, product liability, and construction defects
Survey losses and loss scenes at residential and commercial buildings
Conduct investigations to determine and document the scope of damage caused by recent acute events
Investigate and assess damages due to failures and determine the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support
Analyze and document the failure analysis and causation of failures
Collaborate with other investigators to produce detailed reports outlining the cause and origin of losses and damages
Serve as an expert witness in court and/or in depositions
Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects
