We are seeking an Associate Substation Structural Engineer with a strong educational background in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations to support substation projects.

This position involves direct design of civil and structural components including substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, site development, and oil spill containment in support of bid and construction packages.

Candidate will perform design calculations and develop construction-grade engineering design drawings independently on a regular basis under the supervision of a licensed civil engineer while participating in site visits and occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Civil-Structural Engineering and 2+ years of experience or Masters (MS) with 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with a utility and/or utility consulting company doing design engineering
  • Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint and Mathcad software
  • Experience with STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, RISA 3D, FAD, SAFE, SAG10, and LPile software preferred
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation software preferred
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills
  • EIT preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design substation structures, rigid bus, foundations, retaining walls, and control shelters to support development of bid and construction packages.
  • Perform design calculations for steel structures, concrete structures, and geotechnical components under seismic loading conditions.
  • Develop construction-grade engineering design drawings independently under supervision of a licensed civil engineer.
  • Conduct site visits to client substation facilities as part of regular project work.
  • Travel occasionally for client meetings and industry-related events while maintaining compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control and safe work practices as a member of a design team.
