About this role
WSP is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Geotechnical Engineering for the Indianapolis office. This role provides subject matter technical support and leadership for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, geotechnical testing, and construction of infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include research, design, planning for roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, and water systems.
Oversee collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from work sites, soil samples, surveys, GIS, subsurface utilities, and geotechnical matrices for project development. Apply high-level geotechnical techniques to identify improvements across concept development, design, procurement, construction, and operations. Perform complex investigations of site conditions including subsurface, soil foundations, settlement, erosion, and slope stability.
Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety plans, and update infrastructure layouts coordinating with owners, disciplines, and clients. Lead from project inception to completion managing grading, drainage, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, and embankments. Provide situational guidance to project managers addressing risks, innovation, and future opportunities.
Lead larger-scale civil engineering projects by preparing budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and supervising subcontractors and employees. Oversee advanced technologies, monitoring devices, materials, and modeling for safety, functionality, and future-ready geotechnical solutions. Ensure quality meets industry standards for design, safety, and functionality while reviewing permits and inspections for compliance.
Requirements
- High-level geotechnical engineering techniques and processes for complex infrastructure
- Experience conducting comprehensive site investigations including subsurface, soil foundations, settlement analysis, erosion, lateral earth pressures, and slope stability
- Knowledge of hydrologic analysis, geological hazards, underground water, and conformance to rules, standards, and permits
- Proficiency in construction planning, specifications, cost estimates, safety plans, and coordination with disciplines and clients
- Expertise in managing multi-phase projects from inception through rehabilitation, reconstruction, and operations
- Leadership in advanced geotechnical technologies, monitoring, materials, modeling, and future-ready design standards
- Ability to oversee project budgets, external events, subcontractor performance, and employee supervision
- Familiarity with permit reviews, engineering contracts, waste management plans, and compliance with state/federal regulations

- Oversee development and implementation of advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, and modeling techniques for geotechnical standards
- Lead larger-scale civil engineering projects preparing budgets, tracking expenses, monitoring performance, and supervising subcontractors and employees
- Assist with engineering review of permit applications, design plans, specifications, and construction inspections for regulatory compliance
