About this role

The Ground Engineering Business Unit Director is a senior role reporting directly to the Executive Director for Infrastructure. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, it influences formulation and achievement of overall business strategy. The position drives the unit to become a market leader in the UK and Ireland.

Provide senior leadership and strategic direction, achieving safety, sustainability, and financial goals. Effectively manage people, projects, supply chain, and clients in line with divisional strategy. Grow predictable profitability and order book, focusing on key client accounts.

Center the business around sustainability, relationship-based sales, and product-market combinations. Foster a culture of disciplined cost and risk management, tackling overruns immediately. Implement guardrails to minimise risks, claims, and disputes proactively.

Role model BAM values as an inclusive leader, developing a client-focused business and excellent, safe culture. Innovate with new construction methods for sustainable value. Contribute to transformation agenda through operational insights and breakthrough strategies.

Requirements

Proven senior leadership in ground engineering and infrastructure business units
Track record managing P&L for civil engineering projects
Strategic planning expertise in UK and Ireland ground engineering markets
Experience developing client relationships in infrastructure sector
Knowledge of cost, risk, and commercial management in geotechnical projects
Ability to drive sustainability and innovation in construction methods

Responsibilities

Develop and implement the strategy and budget, optimising business unit revenue and growing margin
Represent the business internally and externally, promoting BAM as a long-term strategic partner
Develop genuine long-term relationships with key clients to prioritise growth in share of wallet
Manage and be accountable for the business unit profit and loss account
Ensure effective management of all projects, including commercial, financial and operational aspects
Lead through established BAM governance processes for monitoring profitability and performance
Provide clear leadership, direction and motivation for staff, creating high-performing teams
